Encourage One Another

Hi.  Last week my dad and mom (Paul and Connie Allen) and myself were in charge of the service and I gave a Testimony about how the people of the Community of Christ Church have helped me through my life struggles.  I thought I would share that with you.  Thanks for reading!

 Encourage One Another

Today’s theme is encourage one another and I would like to tell you about how I have been encouraged by the people in this congregation and beyond.  Many of you know that I started attending El Cajon about 3 years ago.  I grew up in the Community of Christ church but in the early 2000s I decided that I needed a break and I spent about 7 years exploring different things.  In that time I learned a lot and had some wonderful experiences. I also made some wonderful friends along the way and I think I have a more profound relationship with God because of that, but in 2007 I realized that I was missing something and that was my home church, the Community of Christ.

In 2007 I started attending the Clairemont branch and from the moment I walked into the door, there were people there who greeted me and made me feel welcomed.  After I attended Clairemont for a while, I was invited to attend the women’s retreat where I met Dede and the members of the El Cajon branch.  Dede has been more than supportive of me and I call her my surrogate mother.  (No offense mom 🙂 ) I find the women’s retreats to be wonderful as they are a place where I can really relax and share with other women what I am experiencing in my life.  The women there have been so supportive of me as Montie and I go through our journey of becoming parents some day.  People have also been supportive of Montie as he goes through his employment struggles.  There are women there from all over the mission centers so wherever I go in the mission center there are people there who know our stories and encourage us.

Speaking of that, I think God knew that we were going to have a long journey ahead of us so he put it in my heart to go back to the Community of Christ so that I would have a spiritual home and people who would encourage me and I cannot thank people enough for all of their words of encouragement, cards, emails and prayers.  They have sustained Montie and me over the years.  You seem to know intuitively when we need something.  Last month I was having a particularly hard time and Helen came to me and said that she felt I needed a prayer.  We sat together after the service and she prayed with me and it helped me a great deal.  I also want to thank Clairemont as they have sustained Montie and I also.  I spoke there on October 30th as I want to give back to them and Sandy and Doug Hardy administered to me during the service.  It was a beautiful moment as I got to give to them and they gave back to me.

I changed from Clairemont to El Cajon a few years ago because it is closer to my home but also because I also want to give back to you what you have given me over the years.  I am proud to serve as your secretary and I will be glad to help in any way I can.  Let me know if you need a prayer or word of encouragement, as I will be glad to do so.  Thank you!

No need to worry!

Biting one's lip can be a physical manifestati...

Image via Wikipedia

First of all, I have good news!  We have had 94 people see our blog since it opened 2 weeks ago!  Can I hear a Hooray?  Yeah!

Now for the topic of the day 🙂 I borrowed some of this blog post with permission from Anna Marie Davis a member of our congregation.  She is spoke today at our Clairemont congregation and her topic is based on Matthew 6:25-34.  It basically tells us that we do not need to worry about our situation, that God will provide for us.  I can tell you that is true as I have had financial worries lately and somehow it always seems to work out ok in the end.  Maybe I have had to give up a few things, but things are not as important as our relationship with God.

Anna Marie recently met a person who served some time in prison and has changed his life and has decided to follow God.  Anna Marie asked him if he was worried about his future since being in prison will affect whether he gets a job and many other parts of his life.  He said “no, because I know God will provide my needs”.  Anna Marie was impressed with this person because here is someone who has legitimate worries and yet he hands over his life to God.  I think we can learn a lot from this person.

Curt Sharon gave the sermon in El Cajon and he said something that caught my attention on this same topic.  He said “If we focus on God instead of our worries, our worries (or anxieties) will sometimes be taken care of when we serve God.”  It may not be the outcome we expected, but we will be better for it over time.

Is there anyone out there who would like to share how giving their worries or anxieties over to God has turned out for the better?

Have a good week!
